Brief History

A Short History of College.

Ballavi Devi Mahila Degree Mahavidyalaya, a rural based college located between two district headquarters of the state, stretches by 38 kilometers towards east of Cuttack and 25 kilometers towards west of Kendrapara on Cuttack- Kendrapara state highway, near the temple of lord Shaktiswar at Nischintakoili, surrounded by acres and acres of fertile land of Natakai.

Ballavi Devi Mahila Mahavidyalaya was established in 1992. This college was named in respect for the name of Ballavi Devi, the mother of Prof. Kalindi charan Behera , Hon’ble Ex- minister, the founder of the college who was known for his notable deeds on contribution towards women’s upliftment in education and social activities in rural area. The first Governing body president was Prof. Kalindi charan Behera and the first governing body secretary was Sri Nilamani Mohanty .

The college has played a significant role by imparting quality education and aiming at all round development of the students basically rural and minor community girls. It seeks to inculcate the value of discipline, punctuality, obedience and diligence in the students. Games & sports, Cultural activities, NSS, YRS, Yoga and Environmental education are the integral part of the all round development of the student personality.

The college got permission to open +2 arts class with subjects English, MIL(O), Political Science, History, Odia(Opt.), Education and Sociology having 128 seats from academic session 1993-1994. The college got permission for opening of +3 Arts classes with subjects English, MIL(O), History, Political Science, Education, Home Science and Sociology as Pass subjects from the academic session 2000-2001. The college imparted Honours education in the subjects Education, History, Political Science, Home Science and Sociology from the session 2003-2004 . At the same year the college got permament recognition for 128 seats in +3 Arts stream from the Directorate of Higher Education, Govt. of Odisha and affiliation of Utkal University.

The Honours class on Odia started in the college from the session 2008-2009 by seeking permission from Govt. of Odisha and affiliation of Utkal University. At the same year College got affiliation for opening of +2 Science stream. The College got 64 seats with subjects Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. There was increasement of seats from 128-256 in the year 2009-2010 with an additional subjects Sanskrit and Psychology in +2 Arts Stream.

In 2011-2012 the College got 192 seats in +3 Arts stream by seeking permanent affilation from Govt. of Odisha and Utkal University. The College obtained affiliation to open +2 Commerce stream in 2013-2014. The first unit of NSS has been working since 2013-14 in the College and Youth Red Cross (YRC) wing was also opened in the year 2018-19.

The College is under Ramadevi Womens University,Bhubaneswar from the session 2015 unwards and the teaching is provided to the students according to CBCS pattern.The institution has its excellence in academic level and has reached a new horizon. It has well furnished infrastructural facilities as well as well equipped laboratories, specious library and a 40 seated girl’s Hostel for +2 and +3 streams. The college has surrounded by a green forestation which create peaceful and hygienic environment.
